  •   Q: How do I sign up for the league?

o   A: Signing up has gotten much easier now that you can sign-up on-line.  Simply follow the links on our home page and be sure to read the instructions.  Registration for spring 2014 season will begin some time in November 2013.

  •   Q: My daughter has never played before and she is 12 years old.  Is this league too competitive for her?

o   A:  Absolutely not. This is a recreational league open to girls of all ages and experience.

  •   Q: I'm having a problem with the on-line registration, what should I do?

o   A: Contact the registrar at fgslplayeragent@yahoo.com
Online registration will begin in November.

  •   Q: Which division will my daughter be in?

o   A: The division of play is first determined by her age on December 31st of the current year.  Whatever her age is at that time, will be her league age for the upcoming season. You can view a 2013 League Age Breakdown for the 2 of the various age limits for each division.

  •   Q: What if I want my daughter to play in a different division?

o   A: Any requests to play in a higher or lower division must be addressed in writing to the Board for their consideration and approval or disapproval.  The request must be received in time to be considered at a Board meeting prior to try-outs being conducted and teams being formed.  No other exceptions will be permitted.

  •   Q: How do I become a coach or manager?

o   A:   Follow the link to our online registration system and create an account.  After you create an account you can register yourself as a volunteer coach or manager.  As you complete the registration process you will be prompted to complete a Background Check Consent Form and mail it along with a clear copy of your driver's license to FGSL.   If your application is approved, you will be required to attend a MANDATORY coaches meeting or risk your status as a coach/manager in accordance with the FGSL Bylaws.  Returning coaches and managers are not assured a team for the following season and must re-apply every year.

  •   Q: My daughter wants to play with a specific friend or coach, can I request that?

o   A: This is possible in the 6U division only. You make this request at the time of registration.  FGSL does its best to honor such requests but all requests cannot be guaranteed.  All other age divisions participate in a draft to form teams.

  •   Q: When will my daughter be notified about which team she is on?

o   A: Following the coaches/managers meeting which usually occurs on a February date set by the board, your daughter should receive a phone call from her coach or manager.

  •   Q: When are practices and games scheduled?

o   A: Practices will be scheduled by your coach at the coaches meeting.  Generally, they will involve one weekday practice and one on Saturday.  Again, this will depend on what your coach signs up for.  As for games, there will be two games every week with one game on a weeknight and one on Saturday.  The weeknight games will be on different nights throughout the season and the Saturday games will be at different times.  There is not a set night or time slot for any division.

  •   Q: When does the season begin and end?

o   A:  The spring season typically begins in March and ends at the end of May.

  •   Q: What is supplied by the league and what will my daughter need to provide

o   A:  Your registration costs include a Uniform Shirt, ASA Insurance and picture package. The only equipment your daughter needs to provide is a glove, cleats and helmet with an approved face guard and chin strap. If you daughter plays or is interested in playing soccer, you may want to purchase soccer shoes as they can be used in softball whereas softball shoes cannot be used in soccer.  In addition, most teams decide on purchasing a particular style of shorts and socks but that will be up to each team and is not a requirement of the league.

  •   Q: What should I do if my daughter is going to try out for her high school softball team?

o   A:  Players who are trying out for the varsity or junior varsity softball teams are encouraged to sign up for FGSL by the deadline due to team formation.  Confirmed high school players may play in the FGSL spring season for 1/2 the registration fee; the season for these players will begin after the high school season ends (any refund due will be issued by the FGSL treasurer).   Playing for FGSL will allow players to be considered for the FGSL all-star team and also automatically qualifies players to participate in the Norcal winterball season.

  •   Q: What other ways can I become involved and help the league?

o   A: This is a volunteer organization that requires the help of many parents to succeed.  There are always ways to help and tasks to perform.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please e-mail the League's Interim President at jtaylor3@farmersagent.com or send a letter to P.O. Box 458, Shingle Springs, CA 95682.
