Foothill Flyers Select Program
The USA Softball of Sacramento Select (aka “B”) program is designed to create a more competitive environment for players to participate in while still remaining in a recreational league setting and without the expense of playing travel softball. This program will allow USA Softball Recreational leagues to form teams to represent their league on a year-round basis.
Each league will be eligible to put together Select teams at the beginning of the year to compete against the other Select teams formed by other leagues. This allows the league to retain the better players while keeping them in the recreational league. This in turn creates a higher base level of play in the recreational league and drives participation back to the rec program.
Foothill Girls Softball League will participate in the Select program with the intention of fielding teams at the 10U, 12U, and 14U level.
Player Eligibility:
- Players must be registered with Foothill Girls Softball League for the 2025 spring season to be eligible to try out for, or participate on, the Select program.
- All players must live or attend school within the approved boundaries of Foothill Girls Softball League.
- Any player that participates with any other team outside of their recreational league or Select Team during the recreational league season will forfeit their eligibility. This includes open workouts, practices, academy style classes at PS33 and other gyms, and subbing in games or tournaments.
- All players must participate in a tryout for their respective divisions to be held on TBD.

2025 Select Try Outs, Fees and Schedule:
Tryouts: November 16 at Buckeye Elementary Field 1 (Weather Backup date is Sunday, November 17)
Tryouts will be run by the Select Coach(es) and FGSL Board Members. Players will be selected based on the tryout by the head coach(es) and two FGSL Board Members.
You may pre-register your player for Select tryouts by completing the Select Form.
Must bring a copy of your birth certificate and a head shot of player to tryouts. This information is required to play Select and must be submitted to USA Softball. We have a quick turn around and this information must be turned in if selected for a Select Team.
Registration Closes 15 Minutes before tryout start time.
- 10u - Check in at 10 am. Tryout begins at 10:30 am
- 12u - Check in at 12 pm. Tryout begins at 12:30 pm
- 14u - Check in at 2 pm. Tryout begins at 2:30 pm
Team Rosters Will Be Posted to FGSL.ORG BY November 20. Players who make the team must complete the online registration for Select by December 1, 2024.
Fees:
Once the player has made the Select team there will be an additional registration fee of $450 in addition to the spring registration for a total cost of $700. These fees will cover:
- 2 tournament entry fees
- Select league season games
- Select Playoffs
- Practice field rental
- Select uniform
Select teams may opt to fundraise, with the approval of the FGSL Board, to cover costs associated with additional tournaments and Nationals.
Schedule:
Players are expected to be available for most if not all tournaments and round robin Sundays. The round robin Sundays and tournament schedule is a set schedule from February – June/July. It should be the goal of all teams to participate in the USA Softball Western Nationals which is typically the last week of July/first week of August.

Additional Information:
All additional tournaments are the responsibility of the team to select, fundraise for and contact the tournament director to enter.
Teams may ONLY play in USA Softball (aka ASA) tournaments. Participation in any other type of event (e.g. NSA, USSSA, DF, PGF, etc.), without first obtaining a waiver, will result in re-classification to the “A” program.
ANY PLAYER WHO ATTENDS PRACTICES, OPEN WORKOUTS, OR SUBS FOR TOURNAMENT WITH ANY "A" CLASSIFIED TEAM IS INELLIGIBLE TO PLAY SELECT AND WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE TEAM WITHOUT REFUND.
