Umpire Information
Our umpires play a critical role for our league working more than 200 games during the season. Yes, YOU can work as an umpire for FGSL!
Youth Umpires
- Being a youth umpire is a great way to give back by being a role model for younger players and to deepen your understanding of the game. Plus, you get paid!
- Many of our umpires are also players for FGSL, Foothill Gold, and local high schools – we can work with your schedule for your umpire assignments.
- Youth Umpires must be at least 13 years of age and have played at least 2 years with Foothill Girls Softball, USA Softball, or a youth baseball program.
- Foothill Girls Softball will cover the $50 USA Softball Registration fee for all youth umpires that work 5 or more games for the league.
Pay (Youth) Fall/Spring League: $50 per game
Adult Umpires
- Adult umpires are the backbone of any successful youth softball program and we invite you to participate.
- We’ll provide training, lend you equipment through our equipment loan program, and will work with your schedule for umpire assignments. Plus, you’ll get paid for your games!
- No experience required! Everyone starts somewhere.
- Foothill Girls Softball will cover the USA Softball Registration and background check fees for all adult umpires that work for the league.
Pay (Adult) Fall / Spring League: $70 per game
Umpire Equipment and Uniform
The proper uniform for FGSL umpires include the following:
- Grey or Navy Blue pants (worn over your shin guards)
- Powder blue FGSL shirt issued by the league (worn over your chest protector)
- Black shoes, socks, and belt.
- Optional FGSL Umpire hat (available to purchase). USA Softball certified umpires may wear an ASA/USA Softball hat.
Umpire equipment:
All plate umpires must be properly equipped before stepping on the field for a game. This is for your safety. Equipment includes:
Safety Equipment
- Mask
- Chest Protector (worn under your shirt)
- Shin Guards (worn under your pants)
- Cup for male umpires
- Optional: Umpire plate shoes (not provided by the league)
Other necessary equipment
- Indicator (held in left hand)
- Ball bag (worn on belt)
- Plate brush (kept in ball bag or pocket)
- Timer devise
