Field Maintenance
Arrive at least 45-60 minutes prior to the game to set up the field.
Home team is responsible for field setup and tear down (if you are the last game).
Pull out bases, digging tool, chalker, chalk, string kit, template, and dragging tool. Please keep track of the orange base plugs. Drag in the infield to smooth the surface.
Install the bases (the safety (orange) base at 1st base goes in foul territory). You may have to dig around the area of the base to ensure the base bag is installed properly.
Fill the chalker. Bags of chalk can be found in the main equipment shed at Buckeye. There should be bags at each storage box at Pleasant Grove. If there is no chalk or if the boxes need to be refilled, please email the Field Coordinator, fields@fgsl.org.
Lay the batter box template down on either side of home plate and chalk the batters’ boxes.
Run a string from the rear point of home plate through the outside of the third base into left field. Repeat for the first base side, run the string through the outside of the white first base and to the inside of the orange first base (in between the white and orange bases).
Chalk the third and first baselines.
Use the batter box template to chalk the third and first bases coaches’ boxes (leave a 5’ buffer from the baselines).
Chalk the third and first base side on deck circles (at a safe distance) and the out-of-play line.
From the center of the pitching rubber pull the string line 8’ feet. While ensuring there is constant tension on the line, walk around the circle and mark a circle in the dirt with a nail.
Chalk the pitcher’s circle and 16’ diameter/8’radius from the center of the mound.
If you are the last game for the day put the bases, digging tools, string kit, template, chalker, etc. back into the shed or storage box, otherwise leave them out for the next game. Please replace the bases with the orange base plug.
