My daughter has never played before and she is 12 years old.  Is this league too competitive for her?
Answer: This is a recreational league open to girls of all ages and experience.

I'm having a problem with the online registration, what should I do?
Answer: Contact the registrar at playeragent@fgsl.org. Online registration begins in September. Periodically check our website at FGSL.org for information about Spring registration.

Which division will my daughter be in?
Answer: The division of play is determined by her age on August 31st of the current year.  Whatever her age is at that time will be her league age for the upcoming season.

Can my daughter play at a higher age division?
Answer: This is an individual case by case decision, based on player's ability, emotional intellect, and board approval. Contact the registrar at playeragent@fgsl.org.

My daughter wants to play with a specific friend or coach, can I request that?
Answer: This is possible in the 6U division only. You make this request at the time of registration.  FGSL does its best to honor such requests but all requests cannot be guaranteed.  All other age divisions participate in a draft to form teams.

When will my daughter be notified about which team she is on?
Answer: Following the player evaluations/draft and coaches/managers meeting, your daughter should receive an email from the league saying rosters have been released, and/or her coach will contact via TeamSideline.

When are practices and games scheduled?
Answers: Practices will be scheduled by your coach at the coaches meeting. Generally, they will involve one weekday practice and one weekend practice, but could be two weekday practices. The game schedule is released early March and there will be one or two games every week and practice is not guaranteed but teams can request on a weekly basis. The weeknight games will be on different nights throughout the season and the weekend games will be at different times. There is not a set night or time slot for any division for games.

When does the season begin and end?
Answer: The spring season begins mid March and ends mid May.

What is supplied by the league and what will my daughter need to provide?
Answer: Your registration costs include a uniform shirt and USA Softball Insurance. Your daughter needs: glove, cleats, bat, helmet with an approved face guard and fielding mask. If your daughter plays or is interested in playing soccer, you may want to purchase soccer cleats as they can be used in softball but, softball cleats cannot be used in soccer.  In addition, most teams purchase a particular style of shorts/pants and socks/belt/visor but that will be up to each team and is not a requirement of the league.

Where do my registration fees go?
Answer:
The per player cost to run a season is nearly $300. This includes visible expenses such as uniforms, equipment and umpires. It also includes invisible expenses such as liability insurance, field rental and maintenance, and our 501c3 expenses. Our snack shack, dine out nights and other fundraising events allow us to offset the costs to our families.

What should I do if my daughter is going to try out for her high school softball team?
Answer: Players who are trying out for the varsity or junior varsity softball teams are encouraged to sign up for FGSL by the deadline due to team formation. Confirmed high school players may play in the FGSL spring season for 1/2 the registration fee; the season for these players will begin after the high school season ends (any refund due will be issued by the FGSL treasurer).  Playing for FGSL will allow players to be considered for the FGSL all-star team and also automatically qualifies players to participate in the NorCal Fall Ball season.

What other ways can I become involved and help the league?
Answer: This is a volunteer organization that requires the help of many parents to succeed.  There are always ways to help and tasks to perform.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please email the league's President at president@fgsl.org or send a letter to P.O. Box 458, Shingle Springs, CA 95682.
